SILENce | Project Start

Various surveys have examined citizens' attitudes toward the use of drones (UAS).

A large portion of respondents rate the noise emissions from UAS as particularly disruptive, and there are considerable safety concerns in some cases. From the perspective of citizens, this opposes the deployment of drones in urban areas.

Within a feasibility study funded by the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV), the project aims to investigate whether the approach of open Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) with sector-specific noise cancellation - based on the latest, though still theoretical, simulation research results - is also practically feasible for multicopter drones. High-resolution datasets generated from multicopters will be made available directly in the Mobilithek database. In addition to specific requirements for the ANC algorithms, the project aims to define concrete requirements for hardware regarding both counter-noise generation and signal capture and processing.
