Groundbreaking | CUBE3

On June 28, 2024, the ceremonial groundbreaking for the new research building CUBE3 at RWTH Aachen took place.

The ceremony was attended by high-ranking representatives from politics and science, including Ina Brandes, Minister for Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, Dr. Dirk Günnewig, State Secretary in the Ministry of Finance of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, Univ.-Prof. Ulrich Rüdiger, Rector of RWTH Aachen University, Manfred Nettekoven, Chancellor of RWTH Aachen University, Gabriele Willems, Managing Director of BLB NRW, and Ute Willems, Branch Manager of BLB NRW in Aachen.

The participants jointly buried a time capsule in the ground to underscore the symbolic significance of this project. The time capsule contains a certificate of the groundbreaking, a current newspaper, and a USB stick in the form of an acoustic head, which holds all the commemorative publications of the Institute for Communication Systems (IKS).

The new building will have a usable area of nearly 3,000 square meters and will house offices, seminar rooms, and specialized laboratories with high technical requirements. CUBE3 will in the future accommodate the IKS, the Institute for Hearing Technology and Acoustics (IHTA), and the Institute for Theoretical Electrical Engineering (ITHE).
