Appointment of Dr. Marc Adrat as Honorary Professor

One of the highlights of our institute's 60th-anniversary celebration was the formal appointment of Dr.-Ing. Marc Adrat as an honorary professor by our dean, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Albert Moser.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Marc Adrat is the research group leader for Software Defined Radio (SDR) at the Fraunhofer Institute for Communication, Information Processing, and Ergonomics (FKIE) in Wachtberg, and a lecturer at the Institute for Communication Systems at RWTH Aachen University. He is an internationally recognized expert in the field of Software Defined Radio, which involves programmable digital radio systems where essential transmission functions such as coding, error correction, modulation, and synchronization are implemented via software.

Prof. Adrat received his teaching assignment at the Institute for Communication Systems in the field of “Channel Coding and Modulation” in 2009. Since then, he has offered the lecture “Forward Error Correction and Digital Modulation” each summer semester. With the integration of the international degree program “Communications Engineering” into the regular master’s program in “Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, and Computer Engineering” in 2017, the contents of the teaching assignment were updated to a course more focused on modern error-correcting channel coding, titled “Modern Channel Coding for Wireless Communications.”

By appointing Prof. Adrat, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology has gained an excellent and dedicated colleague who enriches the faculty's curriculum with his current topics. Moreover, this appointment further strengthens the collaboration with the FKIE.

We are very pleased about this significant achievement and warmly congratulate Prof. Dr.-Ing. Marc Adrat on his appointment. His expertise and commitment will undoubtedly continue to have a significant impact on the quality of our teaching and research.
