IND graduate becomes Rector of Tecnológico de Costa Rica (TEC)
Luis Paulino Méndez Badilla, a former graduate of our institute, was elected new Rector of Tecnológico de Costa Rica on June 13.
Seminar Selected Topics in Rurberg
This year, students participating in the seminar Selected Topics in Communications Engineering worked out different aspects of the topic "Machine Learning for Audio-Visual Signal Processing".
Block Seminar "The engineer as manager"
This summer term the block seminar named "The engineer as manager" took place during the excursion week. Since 2009, this seminar, which is highly attractive for students, has been offered by Dr. Joachim Schläper in the Institute of Communication Systems twice a year.
Prof. Jax attended the IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP) in Brighton with some of his assistants. Johannes Fabry, Maximilian Kentgens and Matthias Schrammen presented their research results in the areas "Acoustic Aqualization for Headphones", "Dimensionality Reduction of Higher Order Ambisonics", and "Nonlinear Acoustic Echo Cancellation".
Since 2014, professors, postdocs, doctoral students, students, scientists and non-scientists at RWTH Aachen University and Forschungszentrum Jülich have been honoured in order to embed the idea of innovation and foundation throughout the university.

This year's strategy seminar in Ettringen focused on concepts and ideas for the sustainability of software, frameworks and data management.
The Düsseldorf office "RKW Architektur +" wins the public procurement of the Bau- und Liegenschaftsbetrieb NRW (BLB NRW) Aachen for the "Cube 3". The building complements the existing institute buildings "Cube 1" and "Cube 2" of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology.
Measurement series: Time variant impulse responses of ANC headphones
The performance of ANC headphone systems depends strongly on the underlying acoustic paths. Former measurements have shown that these can vary significantly from person to person. This effect can partly be reduced by a calibration the acoustic front end.
In a long tradition, the IKS team celebrated the end of the year together with the students. With hot drinks, waffles and grilled food all culinary wishes could be fulfilled.
